Gord Bamford partners with STARS calendar

Canadian Country Music Awards winner Gord Bamford has partnered with STARS to help promote the non-profit organization’s annual calendar. 2014 marks the 20th edition of the STARS calendar, which includes an exclusive Gord Bamford Christmas CD.

Bamford is a big believer in supporting the community, especially rural areas such as his home town of Lacombe, located quite a distance from a major critical care centre. “Partnering with STARS is a natural choice for me,” said Bamford. “I have a lot of family in rural areas and a large number of my fans live far from major hospitals as well. Whatever I can do to help STARS, I’ll do.”

Special guest Robert Bennett, a STARS Very Important Patient who is featured in the 2014 calendar, was also at the hanger to tell his story and explain why he supports STARS.

Bennett, who was mauled by a grizzly bear in Swan Hills last September, says helping to promote the 20th edition of the STARS calendar is the least he can do. Bennett’s air medical crew stapled his wounds closed during the flight to hospital to keep him from bleeding to death while en route to hospital in Grande Prairie. Stapling is a medical procedure rarely performed during STARS missions.

“The air medical crew did an incredible work on me to control the bleeding, keep me from going into shock and making me feel safe,” said Bennett.

The 20th edition STARS calendar is sold for a $30 donation, and includes Bamford’s Christmas CD and STARS tattoo bandages. This year, for the first time, the STARS calendar will be available for purchase online at www.starscalendar.ca, allowing those who miss representatives in their area the chance to have a calendar delivered right to their door.

“We hope to make this year the best ever for the STARS calendar,” said Rae Fehr, STARS director of development and major gifts. “Partnering with an artist with the stature of Gord Bamford, and the addition of his CD to the package, is going to help us put calendars on the walls of western Canadians.”
