Crescent Point Energy instrumental to launching STARS in Saskatchewan

03.28.2012 Regina Saskatoon Donations

Recognizing the contribution STARS had made to the oil and gas industry in Alberta, Crescent Point Energy President and CEO Scott Saxberg envisioned a similar program in the neighbouring province of Saskatchewan, where many of the corporation’s employees are based.

Crescent Point Energy Corp., an oil and gas producer headquartered in Calgary, primarily focuses on crude oil production in southern Saskatchewan. In 2009, Saxberg empowered his team to start discussions with the Government of Saskatchewan to establish a helicopter emergency medical system for the increased health care protection of his employees who live and work in the province.

“We’re excited to help create a top-quality emergency response program that will benefit not just our own employees and contractors, but everyone in the province,” says Saxberg. “The STARS initiative is an outstanding way to give back to the people of Saskatchewan.”

The Crescent Point team initiated discussions with the Government of Saskatchewan and STARS representatives. With everyone on board for the STARS in Saskatchewan initiative, Crescent Point Energy made the largest donation in the history of the STARS organization at that point in time. In 2010, as lead donor, the corporation committed $5 million to STARS.

“The donation is our way of showing how committed we are to the cause,” says Saxberg. “We’re happy to lead the charge and we look forward to seeing STARS take flight in Saskatchewan.”

In 2011, Crescent Point representatives were on hand to proudly witness the signing of a 10-year affiliation agreement between STARS and the Saskatchewan government for two bases slated to open in 2012.

“STARS in Saskatchewan would not have been possible without the vision and commitment of Crescent Point Energy,” said Dr. Greg Powell, STARS Chief Executive Officer. “The leadership they have demonstrated in bringing a helicopter air ambulance service to the residents of Saskatchewan is a testament to the community-minded corporation they are. This is about enhancing access to critical and emergency care.”

In addition to their financial contribution, Crescent Point is also supporting STARS in developing relationships with other like-minded organizations committed to investing in the health of Saskatchewan residents.
