County of Grande Prairie reaches $1M in support of STARS

September 9, 2013

Grande Prairie, Sept. 13, 2013 – STARS air ambulance unveiled the County of Grande Prairie’s logo on the STARS helicopter on Sept. 8, during the County of Grande Prairie Sportsplex grand opening. This logo unveiling recognized the County’s commitment of more than $1 million to STARS. The logo will be upgraded from its original location on the helicopter’s doors to the cowling, a place reserved for donors who have reached this incredible achievement. The County of Grande Prairie has supported STARS since 2007, with its most recent pledge of $450,000 pushing the total past the $1 million mark.

“STARS plays an integral role in our communities by keeping our communities safe and providing specialized emergency medical transport services,” said Leanne Beaupre, County of Grande Prairie Reeve. “The County of Grande Prairie is truly grateful for what STARS does for the region, which is why we are eager to continually support them in any way possible.”

The STARS base in Grande Prairie has been in operation since late 2006, flying hundreds of missions every year. STARS also monitors more than 4,000 industry sites daily, many of which are oil and gas related and are in the Grande Prairie region. Contributions from donors like the County of Grande Prairie are essential to the successful continuation of these STARS programs.

“The generous support from the County of Grande Prairie has been truly instrumental in the success of STARS in the region,” said Andrea Robertson, STARS president and CEO. “We are grateful for their dedication to safety in the community and we are proud to display their logo on our helicopters.”
