Construction nearing completion at STARS Saskatoon base

August 29, 2013

Saskatoon, Sask., August 29, 2013 - STARS' Saskatchewan vice president of operations Ron Dufresne said today that construction of the future STARS helicopter base in Saskatoon is progressing on schedule and expects the helicopter air ambulance service to move into its new home in November.

"We're very excited to move closer to having a permanent home for our Saskatoon team," said Dufresne. "The hangar is being made possible thanks to support by Potash Corp, who is also supporting the addition of a second aircraft in Saskatoon in 2014." The AW139 medically equipped helicopter is designed to support a larger service area and northern regions.

Dufresne says the hangar, which is approximately 60 per cent complete, will include enough space for both the current STARS Eurocopter BK117 helicopter, the AW139, aircraft engineering equipment and maintenance activity, and medical and aviation crew training and staging areas. The building will also include crew quarters, clinical education and training areas, and office space for support staff and volunteers.

Graham Construction is the company contracted for this project.
