STARS 2011 Lottery Winners Announced

April 13, 2011

ALBERTA, April 13, 2011 – Four show homes, four different cities and four winners in or near the right communities. It’s almost uncanny, but that’s what happened when the grand prizes were drawn for the STARS Lottery 2011.

Emmanuel Caissie of Calgary
Calgary Show Home – Worth $1.1 million retail

Randy Ferner of Ponoka
Red Deer Show Home – Worth $900,000 retail

Bob Aloneissi of Edmonton
Edmonton Show Home – Worth $786,000 retail

Clinton Schafer of Lethbridge – Worth $759,000 retail
Lethbridge Show Home

Ingrid Friss of Edmonton
Home away from Home truck and trailer – Worth $123,700 retail

Two of the winners are sharing their home prizes with other people, including Emmanuel Caissie, a Calgary Transit employee and long time Calgarian, who was thrilled to learn he won the house when contacted by STARS.

“This is a complete surprise - I’m beyond happy – I’m just walking back and forth with excitement and I’m not even touching the ground!” said Mr. Caissie, who will be sharing his prize with four other co-workers. “I can’t wait to tell the other guys!”

Red Deer Show Home winner Randy Ferner of Ponoka echoed Mr. Caissie’s excitement. “My wife and I have been supporting STARS for the last 10 years in numerous ways and we’ve had STARS come out for our Safety Days at work,” says Mr. Ferner, an Encana employee who is sharing the prize with his brother Terry. “My wife and I are still in disbelief – my friends heard my name drawn on TV and I didn’t believe them at first!”

Bob Aloneissi, winner of the Edmonton Show Home was happy to win his prize, but was quick to point out that he is mostly happy that the STARS Lottery was able to sell out raising the needed funds for the organization.

“All I can hope for and wish for is to have good health, and I’m happy to have contributed to STARS by purchasing a ticket,” says Mr. Alonseissi, whose close friend was flown by STARS in the past. “All of society is a winner when we can continue having STARS to help people when they need them.”

This year’s lottery generated over $10 million net for the non-profit charitable organization. “The STARS Lottery continues to be our largest single source of funding,” says Dr. Greg Powell, STARS President and CEO. “Thanks to Albertans support we have been able to sell out every year since we began the STARS Lottery in 1993.”
