Municipal Hail celebrates 100 years with generous gift to save lives
April 11, 2017
Regina, SK, April 11, 2017 — STARS air ambulance aircraft in Saskatchewan will now be adorned with a new logo, thanks to a recently announced $1 million gift from Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance (SMHI), a producer led, Saskatchewan based agricultural insurance association.
Officials with Municipal Hail and STARS unveiled the logo on the iconic red helicopters earlier today at the STARS Regina base. Municipal Hail announced its donation last month at their annual general meeting.
"We are committed to our farmer customers, and during our one hundredth anniversary year, we wanted to invest in an organization that is making a meaningful difference to their lives,” said Rodney Schoettler, CEO of Municipal Hail. “This investment will help to continue providing an important health-care service to people in the hundreds of communities we serve across the province.”
In announcing the sizeable gift, Schoettler encouraged other organizations in the province to support STARS. “Without corporate and community support, STARS can’t carry out its life-saving work. We challenge all businesses in Saskatchewan to contribute in whatever way they can to keep this much needed organization in the sky.”
Municipal Hail’s donation will be directed toward the operation of STARS’ helicopter air ambulance bases in Regina and Saskatoon. The provincial government provides approximately 50 per cent of the funds needed to run STARS in Saskatchewan, meaning the STARS Foundation must raise the remaining $11 million annually.
“The generous support from Municipal Hail will help STARS to continue responding to critically ill and injured patients,” said Denise Belman, executive director of the STARS Foundation, Saskatchewan. “At STARS, it’s all about the patient, and we are thrilled by the support from SMHI that allows us to help Saskatchewan people when they need care the most.”
