Barry’s Ultra Motorsports Park (BUMP) which is located 45 minutes NW of St. Albert, AB will be holding a CMRC Provincial Harescramble & Big Dog Race August 15 and 16, 2009.
You’re probably wondering what is a harescramble? It is a timed motorcycle race through woods & over very natural terrain. They are usually two to three hours in length with the track being about 20 kms long.
If the rider finishes his/her lap & their time is under the time limit, then they get to make another lap. The start is usually a ‘dead’ start where everyone in the class has to start their bikes at the signal of the starter – which is usually by firing a gun in one minute intervals. Classes range from Pee Wees to Vet Masters; Beginners to Pros. All riders are welcome to come out & participate. Children & beginner Ladies are on Sat; and Pros & other adult classes will race on Sunday. Awards ceremony will follow each day’s races.
Saturday night at approximately 7 p.m. is the Big Dogs Race!! This is a big hit with both riders & spectators. It’s not a dog race but ‘big boys’ racing ‘small toys’. These small bikes range from usually 50cc to 150cc with a maximum 10” rear wheel.
The minimum age is usually 16 years of age. BUMP's Big Dog Race will be a harescramble being either 1 1/2 hours in length or possibly three laps on the same course that the Ladies “B” & kids classes raced early in the day.
